Mental Health Day Celebration at Muungano Primary School – 10.10.2024

On October 10, 2024, Akili Chanya Initiative proudly joined the global community in celebrating World Mental Health Day. The event took place at Muungano Primary School, where students, teachers, and community members gathered for a day dedicated to raising awareness about mental health and promoting wellbeing.

The day was filled with a variety of engaging and informative activities aimed at fostering a supportive environment for discussing mental health. Workshops were conducted by mental health professionals, covering topics such as stress management, emotional resilience, and the importance of mental wellness in day-to-day life. These sessions were tailored to be accessible for both children and adults, ensuring that everyone could take away valuable lessons.

Students participated in interactive sessions designed to teach them about mental health in a fun and relatable way. Through role-playing, group discussions, and art-based activities, they learned how to recognize and talk about their feelings. Teachers were also involved in training sessions focused on identifying signs of mental health challenges in students and offering early support.

The highlight of the day was a community discussion where parents, teachers, and health professionals shared their experiences and insights on the growing importance of mental health in schools. Together, they explored ways to create a more inclusive environment where mental health is openly discussed and addressed.

The event concluded with a performance by students, showcasing their understanding of mental health through song, dance, and drama. This artistic expression not only served as entertainment but also reinforced the message that mental health is an essential part of overall wellbeing.

This Mental Health Day celebration was a step forward in Akili Chanya Initiative’s mission to improve mental health awareness in the community. The positive feedback from attendees highlighted the need for ongoing mental health education and support.
